Summary Statement

The Department of Transportation Maintenance and Operations is looking for people to help with snow and ice removal for the 2023/2024 winter season. Positions available are Non-CDL Equipment Operator (operation of trucks, under 26,000 GVWR, for cleaning roads, loaders for material supply, etc.), CDL Equipment Operator, and CDL Equipment Mechanic. Employees are required to have a valid CDL and medical card with expiration date of March 31, 2024, or later when applying for the CDL Equipment Operator or Equipment Mechanic. Positions are located in New Castle and Kent Counties.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Equipment Operator/Equipment Mechanic
  1. Be at least 18 years of age or older. 
  2. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). 
  3. Knowledge or experience with snow and ice control.

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

DelDOT Medical Exam:  Applicants who meet the job requirements for the position, and who are made a conditional offer of employment, shall be required to meet the physical qualifications and examination requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations to hold a commercial driver’s license unless they are approved for either an Intra-State CDL Waiver of a Federal Waiver or Exemption.  In addition, applicants must not have incurred four or more serious traffic violations during the previous three years as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Code.  The Department of Transportation will obtain driving record information maintained by the Division of Motor Vehicles for the preceding three-year period.

As a condition of hire you must possess a valid CDL Class A or B driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) OR obtain one during the initial 90-day probationary period.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
